Classroom and Laboratory Sessions
Course
instruction will alternate between classroom and laboratory
settings. Classroom instruction will be used to review in detail, the
requirements of various masonry testing standards published by
ASTM and other organizations and to discuss important concepts
necessary to properly evaluate the properties of concrete masonry
and concrete masonry materials. Among those topics included in the
course are:
- CMU Compression, Absorption, Dimension Evaluation
(ASTM C 140)
- CMU Drying Shrinkage Testing (ASTM C 426)
- Mortar
Testing (ASTM C 270 and C 780)
- Grout
Testing (ASTM C 476 and C 1019)
- Prism
Testing (ASTM C 1314)

In addition to reviewing
testing procedures and requirements for conventional
concrete masonry units, testing procedures for the
following specialty units will also be discussed:
- Concrete Pavers
- Segmental Retaining Walls
- Concrete Brick

Laboratory sessions
will be used to translate classroom knowledge into
hands-on experience. |
