Performance Data of CMU Products and Systems

small logo

This section provides the user with an explanation on how to calculate performance data including U-Factor for CMU products and systems as well as a dynamic lookup table that calculates performance data based on information provided by the user including wall thickness, CMU weight, grouting condition, interior finish, and exterior finish. The data is based directly on Joint Appendix IV of the 2005 Title 24 California Energy Efficiency Standard.

Data are provided for hollow unit masonry walls (including units made from concrete and clay) and solid concrete walls. In addition, information is provided on the effective thermal resistance (R-Value) of interior furring systems. Information in this section enables you to easily calculate the properties of all common concrete and masonry wall systems. Note that some assemblies may not exist and will return "not a valid option" as a result.

The "Properties PDF" shows Table IV.12 and Table IV.13 of Joint Appendix IV, properties of hollow unit masonry walls and solid unit masonry walls. The PDF describes the U-Factor, C-Factor and Heat Capacity associated with a particular wall type. The "Insulation PDF" shows Table IV.19 of Joint Appendix IV, effective R-Values for interior and exterior insulation layers. This table is mean to be used in conjunction with the "Properties PDF" in order to determine the effective U-Factor of the wall with insulation. Please click next and go to the Explanations page for a better explanation.
